Dataset description

Too high speed is very often the cause of accidents on Aachen’s roads. Therefore, the Safety and Order Department regularly uses two mobile measuring devices to control speed at particular danger points. Unlike monitoring by the police, urban traffic monitoring of flowing traffic is subject to strict legal requirements under Paragraph 48 of the Law on public order authorities, which essentially allow monitoring only at ‘danger points’. On the basis of these requirements and in close consultation with the police, the city is currently carrying out speed checks at around 130 points in the city as part of road accident prevention. Over the last three months, speed checks have been carried out on the following roads:
