The dataset contains the dates of St. Martin’s moves in Düsseldorf.
In 1886 St. Martin moved up to Ross for the first time, followed by a large crowd of children through the streets and alleys of Düsseldorf’s old town. In 1925, the Association of Friends of the Martinsfest e. V. convened and organised the Martinszug through the old town of Düsseldorf every year. It always takes place on November 10th.
Also in the districts the children with their lanterns go after St. Martin and sing traditional songs and new songs. In the two weeks around Martinstag there will be a Martinszug in at least one district. These are often organised by schools, kindergartens or shooting clubs.
In 2018, the Martinszug in Düsseldorf’s Old Town was added to the list of intangible NRW cultural property. This is a first step towards inclusion in the World Heritage Site.
