Functional Urban Areas (FUAS) based on the 2001 census for daily commuting in Greece and especially in the area of influence of Egnatia Odos

Processed data of ELSTAT and primaryly produced diagrams (GIS files) that identify the Operational Urban Areas in Greece based on daily travel for work as recorded in the 2001 population census. Functional Urban Areas (FUAS: Funcational Urban Areas) are generally defined as areas around urban centres, which are functionally linked to them. The concept of the functional urban area covered by this dataset is determined on the basis of whether, at the level of local authorities, the daily movement of the population for work exceeds 10 % of the economically active population. In particular, if the daily movement for the purpose of the work of the population of a local authority to an urban centre exceeds 10 % of the economically active population of the local authority, then it is considered that this area is part of the functional urban area of the urban centre in which these movements are observed.
