Dataset description

Monthly mean (average) values for oceanographic parameters in the North Atlantic Ocean SWAN and ROMS models. Mean values have been calculated on a monthly basis including sea surface temperature (degreecelsius), sea bottom temperature (degreecelsius), sea surface salinity (PSU), bottom salinity (PSU), sea surface velocity (m/sec), mixed layer depth, significant wave height (m), mean wave direction (degreeTrue) and mean wave period (sec). Swan (Simulating Waves Nearshore) is a third-generation wave model Primarily developed for use in coastal regions. The operational East_Atlantic model is an implementation of the SWAN model for Irish waters. The Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) is a free-surface, terrain-following, primitive ocean model widely used to model various oceanographic parameters. The Monthly Model means cover a grid of the North Atlantic Ocean around Ireland. Monthly model means have been created for the previous month to the present date. Swan and ROMS are validated models widely used within the oceanographic community to calculate different characteristics of the ocean. Monthly model means were calculated to provide an average of oceanographic conditions per month. The monthly model Averages were produced by the Oceanographic Services team within the Ocean Science and Information Services section of the Marine Institute (Ireland). Models run and completed up to the previous month of the current date.
