Dataset description

The WMS service ‘areas of exceedance of air quality limits’ makes it possible to identify clearly those municipalities in Piedmont that have exceeded air quality limits or are at risk of being exceeded (as defined in Article 2 of Legislative Decree No 155 of 13 August 2010) “Implementation of Directive 2008/50/EC on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe” with regard to the pollutants referred to in Annexes XI and XIII to the same decree. In the service to all Piedmontese municipalities, the codes for the zoning of air quality used for communication of air quality exceedances to the European Commission (formerly Article 27 of the 2004 Code) are associated with the current parameters of the 2008/50/EC Code, with the current parameters of the 2008/50/EC Code, which are used to communicate air quality to the European Commission (formerly Article 27 of the 2004 Code). The chemical parameters (pollutants) considered are currently the most critical in Piedmont, namely: the daily average (maximum 35 days above 50 mcg/mc) of PM10 fine dust; the annual average (less than 40 mcg/mc) of PM10 fine dust; the annual average (less than 40 mcg/mc) of nitrogen dioxide NO2. In order to identify municipalities, the five-year period 2009-2013 has been analysed and municipalities have been identified which have exceeded at least one of the three limits placed to protect human health for at least three years over five years, corresponding to the daily and annual average of PM10 or the annual average of NO2 The number of indicators exceeded (i.e. 1 to 3) is shown as ‘number of exceedances’.
