Dataset description

Mosaic of the Acoustic Classification plans drawn up by the municipalities of the province of Turin and Novara. The Acoustic Classification Plan (PCA), also known as “acoustic zoning”, is an important tool for the management and prevention of noise pollution. The PCA divides the municipal territory into six homogeneous areas from the point of view of urban settlements, setting the maximum permissible noise limits in the environment and determining constraints and conditions for acoustically sustainable land development. The six zones are: Class I — Particularly protected areas, Class II — Predominantly residential areas, Class III — Mixed-type areas, Class IV — Areas of intense human activity, Class V — Areas predominantly industrial, Class VI — Areas exclusively industrial. The maximum values set by the PCA are: emission limits (maximum levels referring to the single source), absolute input limits (maximum levels for all sources), quality values (target levels to be achieved in the short, medium, long term) and attention values (levels for health and environmental protection). The PCA must be approved by all municipalities under the No. 447/95 Framework Law on No. 447/95 and Regional Law No 52/00. The process envisages the approval of a proposal for acoustic zoning, and later, after the time for submission of observations by the province, neighboring municipalities and private individuals, the adoption of the final plan.
