Dataset description

Water and wetness High Resolution Layers are datasets produced under the Pan-European component of Copernicus (CLMS) land cover monitoring and land use services. They consist of the 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015 time series and were produced using semi-automatic classification algorithms derived from the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) on high-resolution satellite images, supplemented by in-situ information. Water and wetness datasets consist of two different products: main Water and wetness (WAW) representing the status layer and Water & wetness Probability Index (WWPI) representing the ‘change layer’. The WWPI change layers refers to the time series 2006-2009, 2009-2012, 2012-2015 and in addition 2006-2012 to maintain temporal consistency with the CORINE land Cover. All Water and wetness products have a spatial resolution of 20 x 20 meters, in addition to having an aggregation at 100 meters (except for the IMCC dataset which is only 20 meters). The refresh rate is 3 years. The production of HRL Water and wetness was coordinated by the European Environment Agency within the European Copernicus programme involving the National Reference Centres on Land Cover of the Eionet network (for Italy, represented by ISPRA).
