Dataset description

The dataset represents, by way of example, the potentially unfathomable areas differentiated according to the return times and the type of material deposited. The theme derives from a meticulous analysis of historical archive documents and a systematic interpretative study of the aerophotographs, carried out with repetitiveness in Piedmont up to the 1990s, thanks to which it was possible to identify flooded and/or flooded areas along the waterways with indications on the frequencies of the phenomena in the last 100 years identifying the type of material deposited during the event of flooding. The dataset is part of the Database of Geological Processes created by the Piedmont Region in the second half of the 1980s to respond to the growing demand for logical and structured information on the territory, necessary for the functions of planning, coordinating and guiding choices and interventions in the territorial-geological sphere. The original thematic data was produced on I.G.M. 1:100,000 cutting by structuring and integrating the data already collected by the CNR-IRPI of Turin in the context of the research aimed at assessing the hazards associated with hydrological events in Piedmont.
