Dataset description

Regional map of land consumption on a raster (regular grid) basis of 10x10m, produced according to a classification system whose first level divides the entire territory into consumed soil and unconsumed soil. Land consumption is defined as the variation from a non-artificial cover (unconsumed soil) to an artificial soil cover (consumed soil). The European Environment Agency defines artificially covered surfaces as (EEA, 2019): All surfaces where the landscape has been modified or affected by obstruction activities, replacing natural surfaces with 2D/3D artificial abiotic structures or artificial materials. Artificial parts of urban and suburban areas, where humanity has established itself with permanent settlement infrastructure; it also includes settlements in rural areas. Green areas in an urban environment should not be considered as artificial surfaces.
