Dataset description

The sheet is located in the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Campania Region, and includes the islands of Ischia and Procida and the Gulf of Pozzuoli. The continental shelf is mainly located in the northern sector of the Foglio between the Gulf of Pozzuoli to the east and the island of Ischia to the west. The platform has a low slope (< 1°) and the shelf break is around 140-150 m deep. The sheet includes a large sector of continental escarpment engraved by several canyons and canals, with isolated reliefs and overrun basins. The seabed around the island of Ischia are characterised by morphologies attributable to imposing landslides that have affected the island in the recent geological past, due to the lifting of the block of Mount Epomeo and the consequent collapse of the slopes of the volcanic complex. The landslide deposed to the north and west of the island were mapped and, in the southern sector, the large erosive structure that is related to a catastrophic event that affected the southern side of the island of Ischia with the consequent formation of a large underwater landslide (SDA — Southern Debris Avalanche). From the foot of the escarpment, about 550 m deep, towards the wide up to about 1 000 m is observable a wide sector with topography a hummocks, about 100 km², with scattered blocks up to about 20 km from the island. There are 6 critical points that include two landslides, two canyon warheads, an area with erosive warheads and an area with coastal prism failures. The scientific body responsible for the sheet is the CNR-IAMC.
