Dataset description

The sheet is located in the southern Adriatic Sea, central part of Puglia and includes a stretch that extends from Torre Canne to Torre Guaceto. The sheet is characterised by widespread erosion due to currents and in particular, seasonally, to the phenomenon of the impact of dense waters (cascading currents). Underlying currents, which significantly impact this portion of the margin, are the most important element of danger. When captured by canyons or minor canals, deep currents are confined by eroding, transporting and depositing fine sediments. Such currents can induce the formation of small landslides in the heads of channels. The morphology of the platform is characterised by erosive remnants, isolated reliefs of round shape or elongated in ridges of varying length from 500 m to 3 000 m and height of 5-10 m, with NO-SE direction and superficial deformations, perhaps of gravitative origin. In the continental escarpment four large areas where canyon-type erosive channels develop with a length of 5 to 9 km and a maximum width of between 3 and 5 km; on the edge of the platform are the 4 amphitheater heads and a fifth engraving area in a more marginal and less acclimate position at the base of the upper escarpment. No critical points have been identified.
