Dataset description

The sheet is located in the central part of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the southern sector of the eastern edge of Sardinia and includes a stretch that extends from Foxi Murdegu to Capo Ferrato. The sheet is located in the intrascarpation basin of the Inchusa-Sarrabus and covers the continental margin from the platform to the bacinal plane of intra-scarpation, at depths of over 1 600 m. The continental margin appears intensely engraved by canyons (Canyon Pelau, Santoru, San Lorenzo, Sarrabus, Flumendosa and Capoferrato) and by drainage gullies numbers that often join the main canyons. Extensive landslides niches are present at some canyons, especially Pelau and Sarabus. The drainage network of the Flumendosa and Sarrabus canyons occupies about 35 km of the continental margin, which is engraved by numerous minor canyons and gullies. The two canyons of Flumendosa and Sarrbasu, whose heads are placed near the mouth of the river Flumedosa, are separated by a high structural (high of San Lorenzo) and at the base of the escarpment develop channels characterised by powerful embankments originating from the action of overflowing gravitative flows loaded with sediment. The canyons of San Lorenzo and Pelau at the base of the escarpment also develop overflow embankments, concentrated mainly on the southern flank of the canal. Extensive fossil and submerged coastal cords are present on the continental shelf, especially at the Flumendosa canyon. There are 2 points of criticality (testate of canyons). CNR-ISMAR
