Magic Foglio 70 Porto Torres — Map (OpenData)

Sheet 70 is located in the Sardinian Sea and is located on the northern edge of Sardinia, in front of the Gulf Asinara to the east of the northern portion of the island of Asinara. The area is characterised by the presence of the platform and the escarpment of Nurra, which are controlled by tectonic structuring, and the Porto Torres basin that continues into the Gulf of Asinara. The sheet distinguishes two morphological sectors, the platform area and the margin-scarpation; the areas of platform is slightly extended (5-8 km) north and west of the island of Asinara, at the Gulf the platform widens considerably up to 20 km wide. The dominant morphological feature in platform areas is a marked erosive surface that develops from 45 m deep up to 90 m, in the sectors adjacent to the island of Asinara; even at low depths the current and recent sediments are small organised in lenses between the outcrops of the base; the deepest area is characterised by a fairly articulated margin of the platform that connects to an escarpment dominated morphologically by the heads of the Castelsardo canyon. There is a critical point related to a minor warhead of the Castelsardo Canyon. The scientific body responsible for the sheet is the CNR-IAMC.
