Magic Sheet 31 Cape Passero — Map (OpenData)

Sheet 31 is located on the edge of the escarpment of Malta, which separates the platform of the Pelasan Sea from the ocean basin of the Ionian Sea. The escarpment is set on an original Mesozoic margin of carbonatic platform, is erosive and maintains very high slopes, as well as imparting the trend to recesses and salients that characterise the escarpment. The escarpment currently appears in erosion and the morphology is shaped by landslides and gravitative flows of variable entities with retrogressive evolution. The resulting morphology shows a calanchive aspect in the upper-medium part of the escarpment, with well-developed amphitheater heads and a dense network of erosive channels; in places, especially in the southern part, there are incipient phenomena of instability. There are no connections to river lattices wrecked on the platform. There are 2 critical points related to landslides and lowering of the edge of the platform. CNR-ISMAR.
