Magic Sheet 69 Asinara — Map (OpenData)

The sheet is located in the Sardinian Sea and is located on the north-western summit of Sardinia between Capo Negru and the Island of Asinara. In the area covered by the sheet, the continental shelf is about 10 km to the south and narrows to about 5-6 km in the northern area. The lithoid substrate is emerging or sub-surface and constitutes the continuation at sea of the high paleozoic structure of Nurra. The tectonic features, mainly oriented N 25°E, show a parallel trend to the direct faults that lower the escarpment of the Nurra towards W-NW. The sedimentary cover in the internal platform is limited to small basins inside the lithoid substrate while the outer platform is characterised by the presence of a prograding sedimentary prism with the breaking of a slope, which delimits the platform, located around 200 m deep. The edge of the platform is predominantly depositional and is eroded only in the central portion of the sheet at a large area with widespread erosion. The upper escarpment is crossed by several canyons whose heads are located from 300-400 m deep. There is a critical point related to an area with landslide niches. The scientific body responsible for the sheet is the CNR-IAMC.
