Dataset description

This document explains the methodology used by researchers belonging to the entities participating in the Magic2 Project, to develop the preliminary classification of coast susceptibility to the presence/absence of hazardous elements already present in the 73 Sheets produced by the MaGIC project. The preliminary level classification is based on the analysis of the MaGIC mapgrapher and only on the definition of the presence/absence of cartographic features associated with phenomena occurring in the past, thus representing only a general indication of the susceptibility of a given coastal tract. In fact, the identification of morphological elements referring to events already occurred and the attribution to them of a classification parameter, only indicates the general predisposition of the area to the occurrence of future events with similar characteristics, without any reference to their spatial and temporal frequency. Such an in-depth analysis, indispensable for a real risk analysis, would require a detailed analysis of the available data and, above all, the implementation of site-specific studies. In order to carry out the preliminary level classification, the coast line falling within the 73 sheets Magic was divided into sections of about 10 km in length, numbered in a unique and sequential way. At each stroke a level of susceptibility has been attributed to the different types of “georisk”. This value will be obtained through the spatial analysis of all the morpho-batimetric elements already mapped in the sheets of the Magic project, measurements from nautical charts falling in the marine sector in front of that given coastal sector.
