Dataset description

Habitat mapping, understood as the collection of information on the recognition and location of natural environments in the appropriate database, takes them as the key territorial units capable of containing and representing the extraordinary mosaic of biological diversity. The resulting map is a first specific and thematic analysis within the boundaries of SCIs and SPAs, a kind of zoning within the Natura 2000 network aimed at summarising complex and multifunctional information content. The ultimate objective is to provide as accurate and complete a picture as possible of the distribution of habitats and constant and up-to-date monitoring of evolutionary changes. It is understood that the Charter, by virtue of its nature as an organised collection of all geo-referenced information relating to habitats, is intended to illustrate rather than to certify and has all the limits of a continuous activity and a simplified representation of reality. It is not a standard, but rather a valid, but not exhaustive, reference to the date of update. As such, it will help all those who wish to deepen territorial analyses, but it cannot replace other knowledge activities aimed at planning and assessing the impact of plans, projects and measures on Natura network areas, the implementation of which provides, on a case-by-case basis, for different scales of study of the phenomena. The general objective of the work is indeed to build and share a real inventory of habitats representing the memory of knowledge of the natural and semi-natural environments of Natura 2000 value in terms of distribution and location, a general collection of geo-referenced information that can be updated and expanded whenever new observations are made. The purpose of the Charter is to collect the information available only on habitats of Community interest (and 5 other habitats identified for the purpose of this survey because of their regional nature relevance).
