Dataset description

Plan of the house numbers of the Rioni Sassi. The reconstruction of the civic numbering was necessary due to the removal, which took place in very distant times, of the tiles showing the civic numbers from the facades of the houses expropriated with L.619 of 1952. The current plan has been obtained starting from a technical card showing the civic numbers, elaborated in the '50s, kindly granted by the archive of the Arch. Vincenzo Baldoni. This first basic cartography was reported on the vector reproduction of the aerophotogrammetry of the Rioni Sassi, in scale 1:500, detected in 1989 by PROMEC s.r.l. on commission of the Municipality of Matera. Subsequently and on several occasions, the correspondence checks between the civics reported on the cartography obtained and the actual state of the places began, with several in-situ inspections established the exact perimeter of the road paths falling in the Sassi, their current place names and the location of the entrances to the buildings. This operation has become indispensable in order to optimise the identification of the expropriated properties and subsequently transferred under concession from the State Property to the Municipal Administration. On the occasion of the survey of the civic numbers of the entire city, requested by ISTAT in 2010 in anticipation of the population census in 2011, the definition of the numbering was further refined to the current published cartography. About 4500 house numbers have been reported, of which about 250 are still uncertain because they are not directly verifiable (walled or collapsed or with strongly modified internal distribution), the reliability of the mapping is within a range of 70-80 % and further adjustments are reported as verification inspections are required.
