Dataset description

The cartography contains the perimeters of the Site of National Interest relating to the industrial area of Porto Torres. The Sites of National Interest (SIN) are areas of the national territory identified as contaminated in relation to the quantity and danger of the pollutants present and the impact they may have on the surrounding environment, in terms of health and ecological risk, as well as prejudice to cultural and environmental assets. The SINs are identified and perimeterd by the Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea, which also controls the remediation procedure. The state of contamination is associated with the historical use of these areas, in particular to potentially polluting anthropogenic activities that have been carried out in them. Article 252 of Legislative Decree 152/06 states that sites of national interest are recognised by decree of the Ministry of the Environment and the protection of the territory and the sea in agreement with the regions concerned. The perimeter of the Site of National Interest of “Porto Torres” was redefined with the Decree of the Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea of 21 July 2016. The official cartography of the new perimeter of the Site of National Interest of “Porto Torres” is kept in original at the Directorate General for the Protection of the Territory and Waters of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea and in a compliant copy at the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.
