Pai Sicilia — Hydrographic Basin of the Asinaro River and area between the Tellaro and Asinaro basins (087)

The area under examination, located in the eastern part of Sicily, falls within the municipal territories of Avola and Noto, in the province of Syracuse, and has an extension of about 126 square kilometers. It includes:- the basin of the river Asinaro;- the intermediate area between the Asinaro basin and the Tellaro basin, within which the basin of the river Gioi falls. The area borders to the south and west with the basin of the river Tellaro and to the north with the basin of the river Cassibile and with some smaller basins. The river Asinaro originates in Contrada Testa dell’Acqua from a series of streams that flow south of Noto Antica. In the section of the mountain and in the central section the watercourse takes the name of River Asinaro, while near the mouth takes the name of River of Noto. The Gioi stream was born in the Pantanello district, west of the town of Noto, and flows into the Ionian Sea near the Lido di Noto.
