Pai Sicilia — Hydrographic basins of F. Irminio and T. di Modica and intermediate area (082-083)

The water catchment area of the River Irminio is located in the south-eastern portion of southern Sicily and occupies a total area of 269.82 km².The basin under examination has an elongated shape in the direction NE — SW from Monte Lauro to the Mediterranean Coast, near the town of Marina di Ragusa. The basins with which it borders are, proceeding clockwise, the following:- to W with the basin of the Ippari River and with the area between the basin of the F. Ippari and the basin of the F. Irminio;- to NW with the basin of the River Acate — Dirillo;- to NNE with the basin of the river Anapo;- to E with the basin of the River Tellaro;- to ESE with the basin of the torrent of Modica. From an administrative point of view, the F. Irminio basin includes the territories of n.3province (Catania, Ragusa and Syracuse) and a total of 9 municipal territories of which n.2 inhabited centers totally fall within the basin. The water catchment area of the Torrente di Modica is located in the south-eastern portion of southern Sicily and occupies a total area of 141.16 km².
