Dataset description

The island of Ustica is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea about 60 km from the northern coast of Sicily north of Palermo and occupies an area of ​​8.65 Km2. The coastal development of the island is about 12 km. Starting from the town, continuing clockwise, the coast line takes place along Punta San Paolo, PuntaGalera, Punta dell’Arpa, Punta Cavazzi, Punta del Spalmatore, Cala Sidoti, Punta diMegna, Cala della Madonna, Punta Testa del Rosso, Punta del Gorgo Salato, Cala delCamposanto, Cala Giacone, Punta Omo Morto, Capo Falconiera.The maximum altitude of Ustica is represented by the top of Monte Guardia dei Turchi (m 244.3 m), located in the central part of the island. From an administrative point of view, the island includes the entire territory of the Municipality of Ustica, in the province of Palermo. The residents of the island, according to the ISTAT data relating to the year 2003, are 1,348.The main transport and service infrastructures within the island are the following:- Port of Ustica (square of Cala S. Maria and port of Cala del Camposanto)- Heliporto, located on Monte Guardia dei Turchi- Numerous municipal roads- Dissalatore For protected areas the island of Ustica includes the Natural Reserve of the Island of Ustica and the Marine Reserve.
