Dataset description

This map series is taken from the Austrian topographical production (scale 1: 86.400) and Piedmont (scale 1: 50.000) of the first half of the eighteenth century. This is a primary knowledge base in terms of completeness of content for a reading of Italian territory. in the context of this editorial initiative, this historical documentation available for almost all northern and central Italy has included data on the Emilia-Romagna.The photographic images of the original sheets have been scanned at the 1: 50.000 scale and with the cut of the modern sheets of the Military Geographical Institute. the data relating to the area of Emilia-Romagna.The photographic images of the original sheets have been scanned at 1016 dpi (points per inch), each of which has been identified by the associated gonomics, some 15 points are recognised. The new georeferencing showed metric residues with very low values; This also confirms the excellent quality of historical maps. From the files thus produced, the quality ploughs have been constructed on a non-formable basis, which form the basis for obtaining the heliographic copies. The conventional signs of the five original historical cards are very similar to each other, but are not always the same; In the general legend, redrafted and published on each sheet, the main conventional signs are represented. For a more detailed examination of conventional signs, this series also publishes a special sheet ‘legends specific to historical maps of the first half of the eighteenth century in Emilia-Romagna’.
