School Refection

In order to reduce food waste in school refection, in 2015 the municipality integrated the electronic register of state primary schools into the multi-channel attendance automation system. The objective of the project is to report through the data the use of the electronic register for the communication of the attendance of pupils to the school reception system and to raise awareness, through open data, schools and families of food waste. At the request of parents, the Municipality of Bologna provides the school reception service for pupils enrolled in public nursery, primary and secondary schools of 1st grade. After a brief trial (April-June 2015) that made it understand the significant usefulness, in agreement with the school leaders, the electronic register has been equipped with new features that allow, after the teacher’s appeal, to transmit the attendance/absence of children to the system of automation attendance for school refection. In the school year 2015/2016 the survey expanded to the whole city. In 2016/2017 the project went to full capacity. There are 22 out of 22 institutions including the city that today signed the convention, thus integrating the use of the register into the system of automation of the refection.
