Dataset description

Order No 3274 of the President of the Council of Ministers of 20 March 2003, in Official Gazette No 105 of 8 May 2003, lays down the general principles on the basis of which the Regions, to which the State has delegated the adoption of the seismic classification of the territory (Legislative Decree No 112 of 1998 and Presidential Decree No 380 of 2001 — ‘Consolidated Text of the Rules for Buildings’), have drawn up the list of municipalities with the corresponding allocation to one of the four areas, with degressive danger, in which the national territory has been reclassified. Zone 1 — It is the most dangerous area, where strong earthquakes can occur Zone 2 — In the municipalities included in this area there may be quite strong earthquakes Zone 3 — Municipalities included in this area may be subject to modest shaking Zone 4 — It is the least dangerous zone The seismic classification (seismic zone belonging to the municipality) remains useful only for the management of planning and for the control of the territory by the competent authorities (Region, Civil Engineer, etc.).
