Dataset description

The OSS of the Civil Protection Department monitors in Italy the seismic response of public structures (schools, town halls, hospitals, bridges etc.) with 149 monitoring systems (127 complete wired with control unit and?20 accelerometers: 3 on the ground, =3 on the floor, and 22 simplified wireless: 6÷8 accelerometers: 3 on the ground, 3÷5 at the top, one of which acts as a master). Via ADSL or UMTS the recordings are transmitted to the Rome server for processing, and a report by structure and a synthesis report are produced for all “scattati” systems, with peak values, frequency variations, expected damage, etc. The structures are studied with in situ tests and numerical analysis. The OSS is managed by specialised staff of the DPC. The manufacturers of the instrumentation are entrusted with remote control, restoration, repair and maintenance, with guaranteed efficiency of at least 90 % of the network. With the SDO, strategic structures for seismic emergency management are under control and its behaviour is described in detail, for the benefit of structural studies and technical standards.
