Dataset description

The Regional Law No 21 of 9 August 1999 entitled ‘Rules on reclamation and irrigation’ in force states that the Region recognises that reclamation and irrigation activities are a permanent means of developing, protecting and enhancing agricultural production, with particular regard to the quality, protection and conservation of soil, water regulation and the protection of the environment and natural resources; the Region also recognises in the ‘Remediation Consortia’, the ‘Irrigation Consortia’ and the ‘Irrigation and Remediation Consortia’ the body best suited to carrying out remediation and irrigation activities by the users concerned. As indicated by the Law, in order to collect, organise, process and disseminate data and processes, including maps, on reclamation, irrigation and rural areas, the Information System for Remediation and Irrigation, called SIBI, is set up at the Regional Executive. This project is developed in two parts:- census in Piedmont of irrigation infrastructure- subsequent computerisation of data within the information systemThe management also collaborates with INEA (National Institute of Agricultural Economy) in order to deepen the knowledge of irrigation resources on the national territory. INEA carries out research, detection, analysis and forecasting in the structural and socio-economic fields of the agro-industrial, forestry and fisheries sectors. In recent years, the Institute’s activities have expanded in support activities to the Public Administration for the implementation of agricultural policies, primarily those deriving from the European Union. The data collected on the territory and included in SIBI are regularly transmitted to CREA.The available data are:- the district areas- the consortium areas- the route of channels and pipelines
