Dataset description

With regard to noise pollution produced by transport infrastructures, in particular those of the road type, national legislation has defined noise levels, emission limits and interventions for compliance with the limits. In addition, the EU has defined an action programme which led to the adoption of Directive 2002/49/EC of 25 June 2002 on the determination and management of environmental noise, which was transposed into our legal system by Legislative Decree No 194 of 19 August 2005. This directive provides that the Regions must identify and communicate to the Ministry agglomerations with more than 100,000 inhabitants and road axles characterised by traffic volumes exceeding 3 million vehicles per year. On the other hand, transport infrastructure operators (with traffic volumes of more than 3 million vehicles per year) need to prepare acoustic mapping and action plans for noise control and reduction and for the conservation of the acoustic quality of the environment. In view of this, the 2013 Action Plan, which can be consulted on these pages, concerns the main road infrastructure managed by the Road Management Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento. In particular, they are six roads, with a total development of about 220 km.
