Dataset description

Article 32 of Regulation (EU) No 1305/2013 on support for rural development by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) designates ‘areas facing natural or other specific constraints’ by classifying them as follows: mountain areas (b) areas facing significant natural constraints, other than mountain areas (c) other areas with specific constraints This classification affects all procedures relating to rural development in a broad sense: not only the support measures of the Rural Development Programme but also the award of the title of VEI (Vocational Agricultural Entrepreneur). Less-favoured areas for social security purposes do not concern this classification. For the delimitation, the reference is to Article 3(3) of Directive 75/268/EEC for the definition of mountain areas; Dir. 75/268/EEC, Art. 3(4) for areas facing natural constraints other than mountain areas; Dir. 75/268/EEC, Article 3(5) for areas facing specific constraints. In this zoning area type b) are the so-called “intermediate” zones, subject to demographic or socio-economic limitations.
