Dataset description

Use AND COVERING OF ONLY with methodology for sampling points. The dataset, extended to the entire regional territory, concerns the classes of Level 1, ‘artificially shaped territories’ of the Corine Land Cover legend. The method for estimating the extent of land use classes shall be based on sampling points distributed according to a precise probabilistic pattern. The sampling scheme adopted in this specification provides for the division of the territory of the regional into squares of 200 m on the side by a unit area of 40,000 square meters. Within each square, a random sampling point has been selected according to the non-aligned systematic sampling scheme. As a reference for the classification criteria, each point is located at the center of a circle of area of 5,000 square meters (radius 38.89 m), aiding the reference area that is not taken as a limit for photointerpretation. The use of the land to be assigned to the point is not, in fact, that prevailing in the circle of 5,000 square meters, but that of the ideal polygon for land use where the point falls and this ideal polygon can occupy a narrow portion of the circle extending for the rest outside the circumference of reference. The years of punctual land cover using this methodology throughout the region are: 1954, 1978, 1988, 1996, 2007. The dataset was created on behalf of the Tuscany Region by the LaMMA Consortium (http://www.lamma.rete.toscana.it).
