Dataset description

Analysis and forecasts _COSMO-2I_ on the Italian area with a grid pitch of 2.2 km. It is divided into four main series: Cosmo-2I-assim performs almost continuous data assimilation with the LETKF technique using the COSMO KENDA ensemble data assimilation system. It includes 40 members of the ensemble and runs in one-hour forecast/update phases. Use the COSMO ensemble of AM and COSMO-5M as contour conditions. * Cosmo-2I-fcast makes a forecast up to 48 hours, initialised twice a day by COSMO-2I-assim and using COSMO-5M boundary conditions * Cosmo-2I-fcruc(RUC Rapidly Updating Cycle) performs a forecast of up to 18 hours, initialised eight times a day by COSMO-2I-assim and using COSMO-5M boundary conditions, for short-range forecasting and casting Cosmo-2I-fcens performs a daily ensemble prediction with 20 ensemble members, up to 51 hours, initialised by COSMO-2I-assim and using AM’s COSMO ensemble as contour conditions. Cosmo-2I is a model used by the LAMI agreement between ARPA Piemonte, Arpae-SIMC Emilia Romagna and the National National Aeronautical Service (AM) for the exploitation of the COSMO model. The Department of National Civil Protection (DPCN) has assigned LAMI signatories to systematically execute a suite of state-of-the-art numerical weather forecasting models to the best of their knowledge and provide the results in graphic and numerical form to DPCN and civil protection centers in Italy. This activity is financed by DPCN; the configuration of the model and modeling suites is decided by the LAMI partners, Arpae-SIMC is responsible for the creation and management of part of the LAMI suites; Arpae-SIMC has assigned the CINECA Supercomputing Centre, through public tender, the task of providing the IT and human resources for the implementation, execution and monitoring of part of the LAMI NWP suites. The LAMI NWP suites are currently based on the COSMO-2I model which includes the model series mentioned above.
