Dataset description

Noise, or noise pollution, is a daily nuisance for many citizens. Impacts on human beings can be physical and/or psychic (decrease in concentration capacity, insomnia, stress, hearing loss, cardiovascular disease). All the more, noise affects the welfare of animals. In the Grand Duchy, noise is caused primarily by road, rail and air traffic, but also by construction sites, industries or the use of nearby machinery. In view of a wide range of emission sources, it is important to monitor the spread of environmental noise (-> mapping) and, in case of exceedance of limit values, adopt measures to limit its impact. The impact of noise varies according to location, proximity to different sources (roads, airport, rail) and insulation of homes. Environmental noise reduction measures must adapt to these criteria.
