Dataset description

This table establishes a relationship between the municipal classification (the lowest administrative level in the Netherlands) on 1 January 2021 and various subdivisions of the Dutch territory at upper municipal level. With the information in this table, figures from municipalities can be added together, so that figures can also be calculated at the above-municipal level. Exceptions apply to the classification of tourist areas. In the table, click the corresponding column header (‘Tourist Areas’) to get detailed information. The table consists of: — Codes and names of municipalities. — Localisations of municipalities. This indicates the upper municipal areas to which a municipality belongs. — Size and urbanity of municipalities. — Statistical data. This includes the population and the environmental density. This data is based on the size and urbanity of municipalities. For each municipality, the table of the sub-municipal areas of which the municipality belongs. On the other hand, the corresponding municipalities can be sought from the parts of the country, provinces and COROP areas. Data available for 2021 Status of the figures: The data is final. Changes as of July 2021: The final figures for municipality size and inhabitants have been added. When will there be new figures? Each year, a new table containing the most recent area classifications shall be compiled by January at the latest. However, some data are not yet available, which will be added in March. The data shall be definitively established in the summer of the year. See paragraph 3 for a link to the other annual tables.
