Dataset description

This table contains annual data on post-calculated expenditure and volume of long-term care borne by the General Act on Special Medical Expenses (AWBZ) (until 2015) and from 2015 to the Long-term Care Act (Wlz). The figures refer to care in kind, not care paid from personal budgets. The expenditure covers the budget of the AWBZ/Wlz in-kind care delivered in the form of health care packages. The volume refers to the number of days of care provided via health care packages. The figures are based on production agreements and after-calculations. The after-calculations concern realised AWBZ/Wlz care expenditures and volume that have been determined after verification by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and are based on data approved by healthcare institutions and healthcare offices. The production arrangements concern the preliminary agreements between care offices and healthcare providers about the AWBZ/Wlz care to be delivered in kind. In the table, the figures on the intramural care delivered through health-heaviness packages are broken down by healthcare sector. As of 2015, long-term care will be partly financed by the Wlz. From 2015 onwards, another part will be financed by the following laws: the Social Support Act (WMO) 2015. Health Insurance Act (Zvw) and the Youth Act. This concerns, among other things, a large part of the ‘Extramural care’, ‘Healthcare packages (Zzp’s) Mental Health Care (GGZ) C Protected Living’ and ‘Full Package Home (VPT) GGZ’. As a result, a trend break is visible in the table in 2015. The figures published in this table from 2015 relate only to the expenditure and volume covered by the Wlz. Data available from 2010 to 2017 Status of the figures: The figures are final. Changes as of 1 April 2021: — Figures for 2017 have been finalised unchanged. — The table has been discontinued. As of 2018, the Wlz funding cycle has changed, with after-calculation by the NZa only covering total production. After calculation by the NZa then no longer takes place at the level of individual performance. When are new figures coming? None, this table has been discontinued. The figures on expenditure and volume of Wlz care in kind from reporting year 2018 are published in other MLZ-StatLine tables based on declarations from the Zorginstituut en Vektis (see section 3 for a link).
