Dataset description

This table gives an overview of the number of civil cases started and terminated in the Netherlands. The number of cases terminated in a given year is regardless of the year in which the case started. Civil (or civil) law governs the rights between natural persons and/or legal persons such as companies. Civil matters are dealt with by the courts, courts and the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. Since 1 January 2002, the courts have dealt with civil cases in the canton or civil sector. The old terms “candidates” and “arrondissement courts” expired on that date. A civil lawsuit begins with a subpoena or with a petition. A subpoena procedure is a lawsuit that, according to law, begins with an appeal to appear in court. These lawsuits usually end with a judgment or a judgment. Some of these cases end with a settlement or are withdrawn. Petition proceedings are court cases that, according to the law, start with a petition (request) to the court to take a particular decision. In most cases, a petition procedure ends with a final decision. Some of the lawsuits end with a settlement or are withdrawn. As of 1 July 2011, the competence limit for canton cases has been changed. From this date, commercial matters with an interest of up to EUR 25.000 will be dealt with by the subdistrict court. Before this date, commercial matters with an interest of EUR 5.000 were dealt with by the civil sector of the courts. The result is a shift of cases from the civil sector to the canton sector from the court. As of 2011, there has been a change in the registration of custody cases in the courts (cases relating to the custody of minors). Cases counted until 2011 in the other family cases in the canton of the courts are counted as custody cases in the civil sector from 2011. In 2011, there were about 45 thousand cases.
