Dataset description

This table contains figures on the price of a package of goods and services purchased by an average Dutch household. This is called the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The table also shows the derived consumer price index: this is the CPI in which the impact of changes in the rates of taxes on products (e.g. VAT and excise duties on alcohol and tobacco) and subsidies and taxes on consumption (e.g. motor vehicle tax) has been removed. In addition, the table shows the monthly change and the annual change in the CPI. The annual change in total spending is an important indicator of inflation. These figures can be viewed over 372 product groups. Furthermore, there are 34 aggregations of product groups (special aggregates) in the table. For each product group you can also find how much the Dutch consumer spends on it in relation to his total expenditure. This is called the weighting coefficient. The total weighting is 100,000. Data available from: January 1996. Status of the figures: The first time a figure is published over a reporting month, this is a provisional figure. At the second publication for the same month, this is final. Differences between the provisional and final figures are due to new source material. Changes compared to the previous version: Data about a new period has been added and/or adjusted. Changes as of 1 June 2016: For all series data have been added for the period 1996 to January 2015. In order to obtain an overall picture, the existing series have been expanded to include the spending categories that have been lifted for the period 2015. These are the categories of spending: 2006=100: — 011320 Frozen fish — 031100 Clothing fabrics — 031420 Repair and rental of clothing — 032200 Repair and rental of shoes — 043210 Plumbing services — 043230 Maintenance of heating — 043250 Carpenter services — 043290 Ov. residential maintenance services — 051300 Repair of furniture and the like — 053190 Other large household appliances — 063000 Hospital services — 091420 unplayed information carriers — 094240 Rental of equipment for culture — 096010 Domestic package travel 2000=100: — 134000 Real estate tax Because these series do not have a base year 2015=100, the base year 2006=100 or 2000=100 was retained. Where there is another base year, this is explicitly included in the explanatory memorandum. When are new figures coming? The new figures are usually published on the first Thursday of the month. Unless the first Thursday falls on the first, second or third day of the month or public holidays just before or on this Thursday. Then the new figures will be published the following Tuesday.
