Dataset description

This file contains: — The number of COVID @-@ 19 hospital and IC @-@ admissions by age group in the Netherlands, per week of hospital or IC admission and per week on which the data have been reported to the NICE registration (https://www.stichting-nice.nl). The numbers concern COVID-19 hospital and IC admissions since the first report in the Netherlands (27/02/2020) up to and including the most recent complete admission week. The registration of the number of COVID-19 hospital and IC admissions may be lagging behind. This may result in the date of inclusion and the date of the notification fall into another calendar week. Hospital or IC recordings from the most recent complete admission week may have been reported in the current incomplete week and are therefore displayed in this file. Hospital and IC recordings from the most recent incomplete week are not included in this file but censored with the value “NaN” (Not a number). The file is structured as follows: — A record per week of statistics for the Netherlands, even if there are no recordings or reports on the week in question. The numbers are 0 (zero). • The said date for statistics may refer to a hospital or IC @-@ date of admission or the date that the hospital reported hospital or IC admission to the NICE registration. Description of the variables: Version: version number of the dataset. When the content of the dataset is structurally changed (i.e. not the daily update or a correction at record level), the version number will be adjusted (+ 1) and also the corresponding metadata in RIVMdata (data.rivm.nl). Date_of_report: Date and time when the data file was created by the RIVM. Date_of_statistics_week_start: The date of the Monday — first day of that week — for which the numbers are presented per week. Week of hospital admission (variable Hospital_admission), week of IC admission (variable IC_admission), the week on which the hospital admission (variable Hospital_admission_notification) or IC admission (variable IC_admission_notification) was reported to the NICE registration. Age_group: Age group in years of the patients admitted or reported. Intervals per five years are used with the exception of ages below 15 years (0-14) or 90 years and above (90+). Patients of an unknown age are added to ‘Unknown’. Hospital_admission_notification: The number of new COVID-19 patients hospitalised by NICE registration by age group [Age_group] per week on which hospitalisation has been reported [Date_of_statistics_week_start]. Hospital_admission: The number of new COVID-19 patients hospitalised at NICE registration per age group [Age_group] per hospitalisation week [Date_of_statistics_week_start]. IC_admission_notification: The number of new COVID-19 patients included in the IC by age group [Age_group] per week reported in the NICE registration [Date_of_statistics_week_start]. IC_admission: The number of new COVID-19 patients reported at NICE registration who are included in the IC by age group [Age_group] per IC admission week [Date_of_statistics_week_start]. A patient can be admitted to the hospital or at the IC several times. In this open data file, only the first admission per patient is included. RIVM and the NICE registration have aligned as much as possible the method of determining the most relevant recording date in such cases, but the numbers may differ slightly from the data presented by the NICE registration. A patient admitted to the IC also counts in the hospitalisation figures. Despite the fact that hospitals are asked to register the COVID-19 patients several times a day, the registration of the number of patients may be lagging behind. As a result, the numbers of the last calendar week may still be incomplete (https://www.stichting-nice.nl). Corrections made in notifications in the NICE registration source system by hospital staff can also lead to corrections in this data file. In this case, numbers published by RIVM in the past may differ from the numbers in this database. At the time of creation and publication, this file always contains the most up-to-date data according to the source system of the NICE registration after processing by the RIVM. Please note: From 1 July 2021, some hospitals pass on the number of hospital admissions and IC admissions twice a week to NICE, i.e. on Tuesdays and Fridays. These registrations will be updated in this RIVM open data file on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so this file will be most complete on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
