Public bodies are obliged under the 1995 Archives Act to establish in a selection list which archive documents are eligible for preservation and which are for destruction.
The establishment of a selection list is subject to a legal procedure laid down in the 1995 Archives Decree.
One of the procedural steps that needs to be done is the public scrutiny of the draft selection list. Citizens are thus given the opportunity to express their views on the selection list. They can submit a point of view to the Minister for Education, Culture and Science. The selection list is then established.
The selection lists for inspection are published on the website of the National Archives, under Selection lists for inspection. The same applies to the selection lists that have already been established. These can be found under Determined Selection Lists. The list of these established lists is also published in an open format (CSV).
