Dataset description

This table provides information on the number of children in childcare and the average number of hours of childcare by type and form in the Netherlands. This concerns the formal day care and extracurricular care by child centres or childminders within the framework of the Childcare Act (WKO). The data comes from the tax authorities. The table contains data on the place of residence (at 31 December of the reporting year) of the applicants for the childcare allowance, not on the municipality where the childcare took place. Informal childcare by friends, family, au pairs or occasional babysitting and teenage care are not covered by the Childcare Act. Children who use multiple types of care are counted once. The average number of childcare hours is the total number of hours at the location and the type of care divided by the number of children in that (formal) childcare. This concerns exclusively the care provided by child centres or childminders within the framework of the Childcare Act (WKO). The data comes from the tax authorities. A breakdown has been made by region. In order to show how young people in the Netherlands are doing, the National Youth Monitor describes more than 70 topics in addition to this topic. The topics are called indicators. Data available from 2007 to 2014. Status of the figures The figures for 2007-2012 are final. The 2013 figures are further provisional and those of 2014 are provisional. Changes as of 15 May 2017: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable.
