Dataset description

This table shows the percentages of dairy cows offered or not offered during the pasture season. In the category ‘whether pasture corridor’, it is also indicated how the grazing corridor is divided between the forms in which it is offered: ‘past course day and night’ and ‘wheat corridor only during the day’. The agricultural census asked (see below 4.) for the number of weeks that these forms of grazing have been offered. The number of weeks is multiplied by the corresponding numbers of dairy cows. The numbers of pasture weeks that follow are then converted into percentages. Individual cows can be offered for a few weeks of grazing day and night in one season as well as a number of weeks of grazing only during the day. These are taken into account separately in the calculation of the number of pasture weeks. From 2009, the figures on the number of hours of grazing are no longer available for each year. This is because from 2009 this data originates from the Agricultural Census and this question is not asked every year in the Agricultural Census. Young cattle will usually stay out day and night during the pasture season, if grazing is offered. That is why the young cattle do not show the distribution by type of pasture, but the total number of pasture days. The figures on the number of days pasture of young cattle for 2008 and subsequent years are not comparable to those of previous years. Until 2007, the average number of days of grazing was calculated on only the animals with grazing. From 2008 the average is calculated over all young cattle (with and without grazing). As a result, the figure is much lower. With the inclusion of the subject of pasture in the Agricultural census, the question about young cattle is not included as a permanent part of the study. The information in this table, together with figures on the size of the cattle herd, shows the evolution of the number of dairy cows in the whey. This table shows the data for the Netherlands in total and for a number of pasture areas. Data available from 1997 to 2015. Status of the figures: The figures are final. Changes as of 25 April 2018: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? This table is followed by Weidegang of dairy cattle, by LU class and region. For new figures on dairy cattle Weidegang see the links in paragraph 3.
