Dataset description

Data on groundwater level research (Groundwaterlevel data in English) are stored in the basic subsurface registration (BRO). The groundwater level survey object shall contain measurements of the variation in the state of the groundwater in a well-known groundwater monitoring well with a certain pipe. The monitoring of groundwater has been taking place for a long time, at many locations in our country. With this information, it is possible to identify characteristic characteristics of the movement of groundwater, to recognise spatial patterns and to analyse trend changes. Important features include, for example, the highest and final groundwater levels expected in a given area due to the annual seasonal pattern. This knowledge is not only important for agriculture and nature development, but also for the design of new residential areas and infrastructure. The measurement data provide insight into the response of the groundwater to changes such as the reduction of a polder level, or groundwater extraction. Based on this information, predictions can be made about the evolution of groundwater levels in the future. The longer the time series are, the more accurate the predictions are about the long-term behavior of the groundwater. One of today’s major challenges is predicting the impact of climate change on the groundwater system. Guidelines are being developed both nationally and internationally for a sustainable policy and management of our groundwater systems.
