Dataset description

This table shows the number of defaulters under the Healthcare Insurance Act with an administrative contribution at 31 December, according to the characteristics of the place in household, higher education (HBO or WO) and benefits for incapacity for work, social assistance, unemployment or IOAZ/IOAW. The number of defaulters from the end of 2010 is not comparable to the number of defaulters published for the years 2006-2009 due to the difference in definitions used and the change in the method of submission of the data. With effect from 1 July 2016, a law amendment to the Health Insurance Act is in force (improvement of default scheme or ‘good payer scheme’). This legislative amendment gives health insurers a wider power to report persons as defaulters to the CAK. This is possible because defaulters directly agree on a payment scheme with their insurer and by designating the Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) of certain groups, which can flow under conditions. The latter concerns, in particular, persons benefiting from social assistance. Although this scheme entered into force only in 2016, insurers already anticipated this in 2015 and the impact of this scheme can be seen in the figures as early as 2015. Data available from: 2010 Status of the figures: The figures until 2019 are final. The 2020 figures are provisional. Changes as of 28 February 2022: The figures for 2019 have been finalised. The provisional figures for 2021 have been added. When will there be new figures? In the first quarter of 2023, figures for 2021 are added.
