Dataset description

Version of Landscape of the Colonies of Benevolence (UNESCO) adopted by Provincial Staten van Drenthe on 2 July 2014. Frederiksoord, Wilhelminaoord and the vast forest area of Boschoord together with Veenhuizen as ‘Colonians of Benevolence’ have a unique history within Dutch history. The colonies can be seen as the beginning of the Western welfare state. It is the ambition of the province of Drenthe to place these former colonies, and the colonies in Overijssel (Ommerschans) and Belgium (Wortel and Merksplan) on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It’s in Map 1: Vision; map 2B: Core Quality Landscape; map 4: Robust socio-economic system..
