Dataset description

This table contains information on the length of the Dutch railways by track width (in number of tracks) and the presence of electrification. This concerns all railways in use for passenger and/or freight transport operated by ProRail, provided that they are connected to the main rail network operated by ProRail. Privately managed railways (including rail managed by service provider Strukton Rail Short Line) are excluded from this publication. This applies, for example, to railways on industrial sites managed by companies, but also to railway lines used for tourism purposes only. Narrow rail, tram and metro lanes are also excluded. Data available from: 2005. Status of the figures: It’s definitely. The data for the reference years 2005 to 2017 are comparable and are also continuously comparable with figures prior to the 2005 reference year. In the figures for the 2013 reference year, the Hanseatic Railway in use since December 2012 has not yet been included. In the regions of the Netherlands total, East Netherlands, Flevoland and Overijssel, the length of railways is therefore too low for 2013 Changes as of 10 November 2021: The 2021 reference year has been added. Some changes have been made in response to new data sources (recentered aerial photo), based on the same criteria as the 2019 and 2020 level years. Changes as of 30 April 2021: Due to different demarcation criteria, data for 2018 level year were only limited to previous and later years. These figures were recalculated at the beginning of 2021 on the basis of the same criteria used for the 2019 and 2020 level years. The data for the reference years 2005 to 2017 are comparable and are also continuously comparable with figures prior to the 2005 reference year. When will there be new figures: In the third quarter of 2022, the figures for the year 2022 will be published.
