Level of education of persons and partners

This table contains figures on the highest level of education attained by individuals and their partner. These are persons aged 25 years or older who live married or unmarried together. This age limit has been chosen because the initial school career is usually completed and the highest level of education has been reached. There are also more couples with a fixed relationship among people over 25. This table presents educational combinations where the level of education of the person and their partner consists of 5 levels: 1) primary education, 2) vmbo, havo, vwo substructure, mbo1, 3) havo, vwo, mbo2-4, 4) hbo-, wo-bachelor, 5) hbo-, wo-master, doctor. The number of persons whose partner has a lower, equal or higher education level is also shown on the basis of the fifth. Changes as of 14 November 2019: The figures on the level of education in this table have been corrected for the period 2012-2018. This is a correction in the distraction of the level of education of persons who indicate that they have obtained a diploma abroad with a level similar to the higher education level. This group was wrongly awarded the level associated with an MBO2 training. When will there be new figures?: The new figures are coming in early 2022.
