Dataset description

This table shows the return on the investments of life insurers, broken down by type of investment. Life insurers receive premiums and investments. They shall make cash benefits, in one amount or in instalments, to the insured person or other beneficiaries. The benefits in one amount are usually paid when the insured person reaches a certain age or on the death of the insured person. The benefits in instalments extend to the death of the insured person or from the death of the insured person. Life insurers are covered by the guidelines of the Dutch Insurance Supervision Act (WTV 1993). The source for this statistics is the supervisory reporting of insurers to De Nederlandsche Bank. This report has changed significantly as of 2007. The processing method has therefore changed considerably. In this table, the average amount invested is determined as the average of initial and final balance sheet value from 2007. Before that, this was in the source. Some of the differences between the 2006 and 2007 figures are the character of a series break. Data available from 2000 to 2015 Status of the figures: The figures are final. Changes as of 8 December 2017: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable. In the context of the strategic cooperation between CBS and DNB, a new division of tasks has been agreed. Insurance companies and pension funds are explicitly covered by DNB’s area of activity. The publication of tables by CBS with regard to Insurers and Pension Funds is therefore discontinued. More information can be found via the link in section 3.
