Dataset description

This stock is the basic map for the map of the Weidevogel chance areas as laid down in the Regulation Romte of 2014. Explanation of the work card Weidevogel Landscapes For the determination of pasture bird landscapes, three methods are combined: 1. Boundaries based on landscape analysis. For this analysis, the Olterterp Consultation established a number of selection criteria on the basis of the Joint Declaration of the Frisian meadow bird organisations of 2011. These are: —At least 10 breeding pairs of Grutto or 50 breeding pairs or 30 breeding pairs of critical species per 100 ha. The following data have been used for this criterion: BFVW postcard 2012, data TBOs from 2011 or 2012, Weidevogelmeetnet Friesland 2011 or 2012 and from RU Groningen from Zuidwest Fryslân from 2009. The dot map of the BFVW gives the best available picture of the spread and the numbers of meadow birds in large parts of Fryslân. The other sources have been used as a supplement, —Sufficient openness and tranquility. For this criterion, areas outside the disturbance zones of sources of openness and rest have been selected. For the determination of the disturbance zones, the disruption distances have been used which are also applied in the provincial policy. To leave room in the meadow bird landscapes for restoration of openness, disturbance by small bushes, plantations, wooded lake shores and the like has been filtered out. Inheritance planting has been maintained as a source of interference because its removal is considered impossible, —At least 250 ha in size. The national survey of meadow bird landscapes assumes a minimum area of the meadow bird landscape of 400 ha. For the Frisian situation a minimum of 250 ha and 400 ha are included. However, there was little difference in boundary and total area, with the result that the criterion was chosen from the Joint Declaration, —Round on logical landscape units. In the analysis, the Gruttostippen with a kind of fusion technique (kernel-density analysis) were ‘lubricated’ across the landscape and limited to subareas with at least 10 breeding pairs per 100 ha. This map is combined with the map of openness and tranquility and is limited to areas that are at least 250 ha in size. In order to avoid an overly fragmented map image, subregions were taken together if intermediate unsuitable area (displaced, too few Gruttos) was smaller than 500 m, as in the national survey, 2. Supplement with the national map of meadow bird landscapes (manufactured on behalf of the Ministry of EZ). This card is more spacious than the card based on 1. For the analysis described above, more recent and more complete data were available than for the national survey. The national map can therefore be understood as an indication where until recently there were still good meadow bird areas. For the new map, these areas are perceived as areas where there are still opportunities for recovery if they are invested in in the short term. For that reason, they were added to the new card, The map image that emerged after 1 and 2 is completed on logical landscape boundaries such as wide waterways, lakes, canals, motorways, built-up areas, private landscapes and the like. In this way, many small bushes, hamlets, plantations and other local sources of disturbance fall within the meadow bird landscapes. However, the meadow bird landscapes form a search area for meadow bird core areas and give direction to the applications for subsidised pasture bird management. Outside the meadow bird landscape that has no chance; within that they must meet criteria for effective management (the Ecological Review Framework). These criteria, for example, require that (heavy) management is outside disturbed area, so that local sources of malfunction are still taken into account and the actual management is in the right place. With the principles set out in the Joint Declaration, the Olterterp Partners have drawn up the following criteria for pasture bird landscapes: —At least 10 breeding pairs of Grutto or 50 breeding pairs or 30 breeding pairs of critical species per 100 ha over the period 2009-2012, based on the BFVW postcard, —Sufficient openness and tranquility, — At least 250 ha in size1. 3. Limits from Collective Management Plans Of a number of areas, no data were available in the BFVW database or other sources, but based on the data from Collective Management Plans, those areas did meet the minimum densities of pasture birds. Sometimes there is doubt about the quality and completeness of the counting data, but for the time being these areas get the benefit of the doubt and are still included in the work card. These areas will have the opportunity to collect good data and meet the minimum area until the new system enters into force (in 2016). A national counting method is expected to be available shortly, with which good data can be collected in 2014 and 2015. This gives them the same opportunity as the areas where there are already good data. Along this road, a few areas have landed on the map, which are less than 250 hectares.
