Motor vehicles; total by period and by technical characteristics, 2000-2012

This table contains key figures on the size of the vehicle fleet (passenger cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles) broken down by vehicle characteristics (i.e. age class, fuel type, model and weight) of the owner (age and province). The figures are based on the registration number of RDW (until 1996 National Road Traffic Agency). With the help of this registration, censuses were made of all vehicles with current registration plates that appeared in the registration file on 1 January of the year in question. Data available from 2000 to 2012. Status of the figures: The data is final. Changes as of 5 July 2013: None, this table has been discontinued. Changes as of 1 May 2012: The data of 1 January 2012 have been added. Changes as of 24 April 2012: In this table, the following figures have been corrected for 2010 and 2011: Age of owner: in the source database, 3 vehicle owners are under 18 years of age, currently classified in category 18 and 19 year olds (both for passenger cars and motorcycles). Number of cylinders for motorcycles: vehicles with an unlikely number of cylinders are placed in the category other/unknown. Age owner of motorcycles: up to and including the previous version, there was a category “Age Overig/Unknown”. It has been found that these are only motorcycles in the name of legal persons; the name of the category in question has therefore been changed to ‘In the name of legal person’.
