This table contains results on the theme of the museum, the number of visits, rates, exhibitions and employment of museums.
Since 2015, the research population has been recalibrated. As a result, the results from 1993 to 2013 can no longer be compared with the results in this table.
Per statistical year 2016, a redesign of the typing of the museums has been carried out. In addition, the characterisation of the centre of gravity of the collection has been abandoned by the National Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE). In the 2016 questionnaire, museums were allowed to fill in the most important subject of the museum. In consultation with Museum Association, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the RCE, it has been decided to use this classification in all statistics. The classification has been adjusted retroactively up to and including 2015. In the 2020 questionnaire, all museums have retyped themselves and the category ‘Other’ has expired.
