Dataset description

This table contains figures on the number of national monuments of national significance in the Netherlands on 31 December of the relevant year for the years 1965-2021. Monuments protected by municipalities and provinces are not included in this table. The figures in this table have been compiled by the National Agency for Cultural Heritage. The regional breakdown for all years is based on the municipal division of 1 January 2022. The figures are not only divided by type of monument, but also by country, province, municipality and COROP area. Data available from: 1965. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. Amendments as of 22 July 2022: This is a new table. In the StatLine archive you can find tables with the National Monuments according to the regional layouts of the years 2015-2020. The older tables use a classification according to the type of monument into 11 categories, which does not include archaeological monuments. This new table uses a new classification by type of monument in 14 main categories, including now also archaeological monuments. Of the 14 main categories, 13 are currently in use. When are new figures coming? The figures with the final position of 31 December 2022 will be available in the second quarter of 2023 in a new table showing the municipal classification 2023. The figures from previous years in the 1965-2021 time series are also presented according to the municipal classification of 2023.
